Who's it for? Casual photographers that want the flexibility of a very large zoom, but don't need a pocketable camera.
Bridge cameras used to be for people who care more about zoom range that image quality. Real photo enthusiasts would turn their noses up at them. But models like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 are doing a good job of turning that reputation around. It has a 1-inch sensor, much larger than the bog-standard compact-size sensor used in other bridge cameras. The lens is impressive too. You get a 25-400mm focal length with max aperture of f/2.8-4.0.
