Who's it for? Enthusiast photographers who want top-notch image quality and an electronic viewfinder – it's very good in low light.

For the past few years, Sony has been the master of the high-end compact cameras. Its RX100-series models offer fantastic shooting versatility, giving you CSC-like results from a camera you can fit in your pocket. The third-generation model refines the formula with a faster lens. You get less zoom range as a result, but when the Sony RX100 III is all about image quality, it’s a fair pay-off. You get f/2.8 all the way up to the end of its 70mm max focal length. It’s not game over for the older models, though. Check out the RX100 II and original RX100 if you want a cheaper option:
