Tablet Of The Year 2016

Our shortlist for the Best Tablet of 2011 included tablets in sizes from 7in up to 12.5in, in various styles including convertible laptops and tablets with keyboard docks. We asked you to vote for your favourite, whether that was a tablet you owned or one you simply wished you owned.

Having tallied your votes we whittled down the shortlist to three finalists: the Apple iPad 2, Asus Eee Pad Transformer and the Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1. The chosen finalists showed just how Android has caught up with the iPad in the past 12 months and also showed that tablets could even challenge laptops.

Our panel of experts then got together to discuss and debate the merits of each tablet getting a chance to put each through its paces before voting for the winner.

While the voting was very close, looking at the judges' comments, it is clear that they felt the outstanding battery life, great value and flexibility of one particular product made it a superb product and worthy winner of Tablet of the Year 2011.

Transformer is brilliant tablet and raised the bar the most out of the 3 shortlisted. This ex IPAD owner really noticed the difference in the huge extra options; and functions on android honeycomb delivered on some solid hardware.

Actually, I find it hard to believe that the Asus pips the iPad!

But as you say, iPad is king of the castle at the moment. And, I guess the iPad needs to competition!
