Surround Sound Product Of The Year 2011

Our shortlist for the Best Surround Sound Product of 2011 included devices from big players like Onkyo, Teufel, Samsung and Marantz, as well as lesser known manufacturers like Jamo and Cambridge Audio, some of which are now offering high-end features for more modest prices. We asked you to vote for your favourite, whether that was a surround sound product you already owned or one you simply wished you owned.

Having tallied your votes we whittled down the shortlist to three finalists: the Onkyo TX-NR609, the Marantz SR7005 and the Jamo A 101 HCS 5. The chosen finalists showed how consumers now want bespoke audio experiences - once only available in the cinema - in their living rooms and the finalists range from premium audiophile products to budget systems which still deliver a punch.

Our panel of experts then got together to discuss and debate the merits of each product, getting a chance to listen to each in action in a variety of situations.

The voting was very close, but looking at the judges' comments, it is clear that they felt outstanding value coupled with excellent build quality and top notch sound performance helped then decide on a deserving winner of Surround Sound Product of the Year 2011.
