Asus N53SV

If you aren't trying to develop body-builder musculature, a 17in beast might be a tad on the heavy side. 15.6in laptops are the most popular size for a reason, and it's that for many they represent the perfect compromise between size, features and price. Mind you, we prefer our ultraportables, but those do tend to be more expensive. If your budget can stretch to £700, the Asus N53SV is a powerful machine that should run everything you might throw at it. Mind you, if all you'll be doing is strict productivity, it's overkill. But if you're studying video editing, rendering or other computing-intensive disciplines, it's a decent affordable choice (it'll let you play some games after class too).
