I bought this hard drive OEM. At the beginning it was working fine. Almost 4 months down the line my BIOS stopped recognising the hard drive. I have tried all the cable checks etc. No drive yet. I later researched on the net http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/01/16/barracuda_failure_plague/
So be warned before buying this drive.

When you're busting to open your newly aquired IOMEGA 1TB 3.5 form factor External USB Hard Drive (scuppering the warranty at a stroke) curious to know what's inside as you were originally tempted by the current price of a 1TB Seagate......only to discover IOMEGA have actually incorporated said drive is one happy accident!
Purchased from my local STAPLES store at £99 it easily matches the current bare OEM Barracuda's asking price- a saving when you consider packing/delivery charges if bought on the net. I can also kid myself I've gained a 'free' SATA enclosure!!! The drive is incredibly quiet in operation if a little warm in it's enclosure after a couple of hours without spinning down. My Iomega 500Gb externals (same enclosures?) run cooler. That said I shall be popping a couple inside my video editing PC where they should achieve greater speeds and run a little cooler whilst utilising their discarded enclosures elsewhere.
