Spotted by the keen eyes at blog the Google Operating System we reputedly have word of the first formal mention of the fabled 'GDrive'.

Found in a file used by Google Pack, is 'localized information which is sent to translators' and inside subcategory 'online file backup and storage' we allegedly find this little gem:

"GDrive provides reliable storage for all of your files, including photos, music and documents. GDrive allows you to access your files from anywhere, anytime and from any device - be it from your desktop, web browser or cellular phone."

Now we'll not jump up out down yet (other than for the happy fact the code saves me having to describe what the GDrive is) but this is undeniably interesting. In fact, while Google has refused to comment on the service the name is so widespread now I suspect - much as Apple had no choice with the 'iPhone' - the company will run with the term and garner the free brand awareness.

A 2009 debut? I'd have to say - in one form or another - it's looking increasingly likely...
