I'm rather surprised we had to wait this long...

With all its memory and storage expertise only now is Corsair launching its first SSD. The 'S128' gives much of the game away since it is an SATA II based 128GB MLC model though it eschews the JMicron 602 controller widely adopted by the likes of OCZ's Core series and in MLC drives in general for an (unspecified) alternative from Samsung.

That aside, there isn't actually too much to shout about here as Corsair is clearly going for the budget (if you can call it that) end of the SSD market with no-need-to-write-home-about-it 90MB per second read and 70MB per second write speeds. That said, the JMicron controller is generally considered an Achilles heel in many SSDs and it should still cream virtually any HDD in day to day work in and around Windows due to the ballistic seek times of flash memory.

Clearly a model to kick things off on a secure note, the S128 can be pre-ordered now for £297.99 and I suspect its reliability will prove a major plus point. Corsair has also admitted it will be shipping faster SSDs in the near future, so watch this space...
