The California based company has today sent out a marker with its new MasterDrive PX and OX lines which up the speeds but significantly lower asking prices. Here's the skinny (quite literally given their svelte 100.2 x 69.9 x 9.5mm dimensions):
The OX line runs MLC (multi level cell) NAND and is therefore the cheaper of the two yet still manages to produce read and write speeds of 150MB per second and 100MB per second respectively in capacities of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. Up things to the SLC (single level cell) based PX series and these numbers jump to 170MB per second read and 130MB per second write in 32GB and 64GB sizes. Access times all round are just 0.1msec, equalling the best on the market to date.
Here's the kicker though, a 128GB MasterDrive OX will launch this week with a street price of just $419 (£234). Now compare that with Intel's $595 (£333) asking price for its 250MBps read / 70MBps write 80GB M series. Yes, there are pros and cons here but I know which appeals more to my wallet.

@VGA - well, let's see how next generations turn out. Sounds like horrible bad luck, but if that happened to everyone the company would be out of business in a week.

Just got an email back from supertalent. These new OX MLC drives have the exact same JMicron (JMF602) controller with ZERO cache as all the other non intel MLC drives on the marke... more
