It really depends a bit mate: older, less capacious drives are slower than newer, high-capacity drives. Measuring Drive Speed also varies depending on whether you're talking about Peak Transfer Rates, or Sustained...
Off the top of my head I'd say somewhere in the 40MB-80MB sustained range, to answer your question. If 260MB/sec is sustain then you're looking at maybe 300-600% faster, which would make a BIG difference IMO

Yup, The_Pope is spot on around 60MBps sustained for standard 3.5in HDDs, less for notebooks.
