Up and coming manufacturer Super Talent (now embracing the space between its name) has given us yet another storage wet dream...

Following on from its first generation SSDs, ST has come up with the 'MasterDrive' MX and DX series (goodbye space).

Described as "100% interchangeable with hard disk drives (HDDs), but faster, lighter, using less power and are far more rugged and reliable" (what more do you want?), the MX's come in capacities from 30GB to 120GB with the ultra high speed DX ranging from 30GB to 60GB.

Both use SATA II (3Gbps) interfaces with the MX claimed to race along at 120MBps read/40MBps write and DX topping that at 120MBps read/70MBps write. Interestingly, Super Talent has split from the pack as well by offering end user pricing with the 30GB, 60Gb and 120GB MX line going for $229, $449 and $699 respectively while the DX is a more terrifying $699 (30GB) and $1299 (60GB).

Perhaps most exciting of all, both these ranges go on sale immediately through online retailers NewEgg and eWiz who are already undercutting those RRPs. So if you've always lusted after some solid state storage but not fancied splashing out on an entirely new laptop here's your chance…
