"Yet more novelty SD Cards..." would be an understandable reaction to news that SanDisk has launched a range of 'Ducati' flash memory, but not when it comes with this much substance behind it...

Consisting of CompactFlash, SD Plus and USB flash drives the range doesn't just sport Ducati's famous red styling they also break all SanDisk's speed records.

Twice as fast as a SanDisk Extreme III card and 5MB faster than a SanDisk Extreme IV card the Ducati CompactFlash takes the chequered flag with a stunning 45 megabytes per second transfer rate (think one album – 1.5 seconds!). Tying for second are the SD Plus drive – with its nifty folding SD/USB connectivity – and the flash drive with 20 megabyte per second rates.

“Ducati is on the leading edge of motorcycle design and performance, and SanDisk is the world leader in flash memory cards," said Wes Brewer, VP of SanDisk’s Cards and Accessories Division. "Both companies share a passion for speed and for pushing the envelope of technology. We feel that SanDisk’s new products will resonate not only with photographers but also with the millions of Ducati and MotoGP fans around the world.”

I think he might have a point….

The Ducati range goes on sale globally in August with 4GB and 8GB CompactFlash cards priced at $164.99 and $314.99 respectively, a 4GB SD Plus card for $129.99 and the 4GB USB drive for $124.99. Now if only every company tie-in could prove so fruitful…
