If you thought the venerable USB Drive didn't have any more (useful) permutations left in it then you'd be very wrong indeed...

Storage guru Kingston has come up with 'DataTraveler Reader' a hybrid USB drive with a flip top compartment that allows you to insert a variety of memory cards to not only boost its own capacity but save you carrying around a separate adapter.

SD, MMC and, importantly, SDHC cards are all on the menu (along with microSD, miniSD and all the MMC variants if you use an adaptor – though maybe that destroys the point) and given the reader/drive's USB2.0 connection your only speed limitation will be that of the flash memory itself.

Once plugged into a computer the Traveller's integrated storage shows up as one drive letter and your memory card of choice as another. It plays friendly with both Vista and Mac OS X (and yes obviously XP) and with a 1GB edition setting you back just $19.99 and a 2GBer a mere $34.99 there's little premium compared to a regular USB Drive.

A price-less 4GB edition of the DataTraveller Reader is coming towards the end of March if you want extra capacity and while I could never see a reason why on earth I would ever need another USB drive ever (we get a lot of freebies in press packs) I see I'll be forced to rescind that comment.
