At the back end of February SlySoft officially drop kicked HD DVD copy protection out the window when it released AnyDVD HD, the first official duplication software for the high def format. It promised to be back shortly with a version that worked for Blu-ray but no one expected it to be this quick...

Just two weeks later 'AnyDVD HD' is back, patched and ready to give 'fair rights' access for Blu-ray disc owners. Version 6.1.3.0 adds support for Sony's baby and likewise removes DRM, strips region encoding and lets you watch movies over a digital display connection without an HDCP compliant graphics card and monitor. In the words of SlySoft: 'Sweet!'

Furthermore AnyDVD HD can strip user prohibitions, let you select the language and subtitle track without going through the disc's menu, remove parental restrictions and get rid of Studio Logos and warning messages. Lastly, the software offers 'magic file replacement' which means a user can remaster any commercial movie disc using simple XML scripts. These scripts replace the files on the physical disc allowing discs to be customised without even making a copy to hard disk.

With Vista 32bit and 64bit support, a free upgrade for owners of the HD DVD only version of AnyDVD HD and a download price of just $30 (£15.55) for new users it must leave the copyright coders at Sony and Toshiba feeling a bit silly. It leaves the rest of us overjoyed.
