While Toshiba and Sony may have acted with some scepticism after coder muslix64 claimed to have cracked both the encryption behind both HD DVD and Blu-ray (yet was too scared to released it) the former can have no doubts anymore after professional software to copy HD DVDs was released today.

SlySoft is the brave software company behind ‘AnyDVD HD’ a programme which decrypts HD DVDs so they can be copied sold uploaded onto bittorent trackers ‘stored for your own personal back ups’. It works by removing the AACS encryption on the discs and even knocks out HDCP meaning you won’t need a monitor or graphics card that is HDCP compliant. In fact, HD DVD is an open book to AnyDVD HD since the software will also let you remove the copyright code, CSS encryption and regional code.

Furthermore, SlySoft denies it has had any contact with muslix64 claiming it managed to bypass HD DVD’s encryption on its own. Now this statement may breed cynicism among you but – if true – it is clear the format’s copy protection was deeply flawed from the start. Get it online now for just $30 from the link below.

So can Sony now sit back and smirk at the plight of HD DVD? Nope, SlySoft says it will release a Blu-ray edition of AnyDVD next month!
