Everything gets ruggedised at one stage or another, either for the thrill seeking adventurer or simply to protect the clumsy. To be fair, the ruggedised flash memory keys from PNY are not the first of these devices we’ve seen to get toughened up, but they are the first for a while.

Described as crash proof and weather proof (we are sure PNY means “within reason” – as I’m sure a head on smash with a Steamroller or one-on-one with a typhoon would take care of these little suckers), the Outdoor Attaché range is designed for the sporty adventurer.

The outer shell is made entirely of rubber, features a tight fitting cap and its USB2.0 connectivity is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems (it will work with Windows 98 by downloading the relevant driver from the company’s website.

Bundled accessories include a 20cm USB extension cable (for the lanky look), neck cord (for the Hip Hop look) and portable clasp (for the science geek look). Blue 256MB and green 512MB capacities of the Outdoor Attaché are available now priced at £29.99 and £49.99 respectively (including VAT). A £79.99, red 1GB version is currently swimming wild rivers, battling giant storms and hiking over mountains so it can be here before the start of August. What a guy/key!
