A UK based company called Blue Nova International (BNI) has launched a portable external hard disk drive dubbed the BNI MediaBox. The MediaBox is essentially a portable Media Player without an integrated screen.

The pocket hard drive supports DivX, Xvid, VCD, SVCD, MPEG4, Windows Media Video and Audio, MP3 and JPEG. Content is accessed using the supplied remote control, via an on-screen display. The drive could be a great way of watching your DIVX movies on your large television without having to have a PC in your lounge, or for transporting media to watch anywhere there is a screen.

The box itself is only 13cm long and weighs 215 grams, and sports a brushed aluminium finish. The disk inside is a 2.5in 40GB hard disk that connects to any TV or Hi-Fi enabling you to play films or music directly from the drive, without needing a computer. To keep things simple there are only three inputs on the device, power, USB 2.0 for swift transfer of files and an AV output.

Blue Nova hopes to make the MediaBox available through large retailers and online across Europe at an RRP of £150.
