Fujitsu Europe has announced newer versions of its 2.5in portaqble hard disk drives featuring increased storage capacities. The drive will now be available in 40, 60, 80 or 100GB sizes.

The HandyDrives are small, portable drives, housed in a rugged, slim casing, measuring just 15mm high and 180g in weight. They use a speedy USB 2.0 interface to connect to a PC and are bus powered so you don’t have to carry around any extra power supplies or batteries.

Fujitsu is targeting the new HandyDrive series toward the SOHO Market, and anyone working on notebooks when out travelling who needs to save large quantities of data securely.

Supported operating systems included Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP, Mac OS 8.6 and above, Linux (Kernel 2.4 in USB 2.0 mode, Mandrake 8.1 and SuSE 7.1 in USB 1.0 mode).

The new HandyDrives are available from local dealers from November 2004. Recommended retail prices range from £90 to £176, including VAT. The package includes the HandyDrive Data Edition with manual and respective driver, a USB 2.0 cable, a Y-cable for two bus ports, and a carrying case.
