Buffalo has extended its range of LinkStation storage products, adding three new high capacity drives. The LinkStation is a network attached storage product that hooks into a network via its built-in wired or wireless connections. We reviewed the original 120GB drive here, and now Buffalo has added a 160Gb, 250GB, and 300GB drives as well.

New features included a FTP server function, so it can be accessed over the web, and a software backup solution, a built-in print server and two USB 2.0 ports.

Buffalo has also introduced the DriveStation products to the UK. These are essentially standard external hard drives, without any network connectivity. The DriveStations are available in capacities of 80GB, 160GB, and 250GB and spind at 7,200rpm.

These connect up using USB 2.0 and are backward compatible with USB 1.0. An Auto Power-On feature enables it to associate with the power of the attached computer and automatically powers-on or off with the computer. An Auto Backup features enables users to schedule automatic back-ups and the drive can also be used as a backup drive to Buffalo’s LinkStation Network Storage drives.

Both the LinkStation and the DriveStation are fanless, so users won’t be bothered by unwelcome noise.

The LinkStation and DriveStation drives will be available in November 2004 and are backed by a two-year warranty.
