Maxtor has released a new unit to add to its family of external backup drives. The OneTouch II is available in 250GB or 300GB flavours and features a large 16MB buffer for increased performance. The drive has both Firewire and USB 2.0 connections so can easily be connected to a Mac or PC and is encased in an stylish housing to make it blend in, in a professional home or office environment.



The drive takes its name from the button on the front, which enables backs-ups to be make quickly and simply with just a touch of a button. Maxtor claims that it has implemented a features that its customers have requested.

The drive has a simpler set-up routine, with fewer questions so users can easily select which drives and files they wish to have automatically backed up.

A new feature is DriveLock, which enables users to password-protect the contents of their drive to keep it safe from unauthorised users.

A custom version of Dantz Retrospect has been included. The restore process has been streamlined with an archiving system enabling speedy restores from the day before or a month before. The software auto manages space, deleting older archives as necessary.

The user interface has been improved and Mac users can now create a fully bootable backup of their system.

The drive is available now for a suggested retail price of £259 for the 300GB version and £239 for 250GB of space.
