The Xperia Z1 is Sony’s latest flagship phone. It follows on from the success of the Xperia Z that was launched last year, but manages to rectify a few of the issues we had with it. A good-looking two-tone aluminium frame holds the screen together with the glass backplate. The aluminium is rounded and feels very comfortable in your hand, much more so than the previous Xperia Z. It’s not a small phone by any means. The Z1 is bigger and chunkier than its predecessor and is much bigger than the iPhone 5, Galaxy S4 and HTC One. Dainty it aint. What it is though is a very solid and well-designed slab of glass and metal. The 5-inch screen is full HD and looks good, but viewing angles could be a little better. In terms of performance the Xperia Z1 is a true powerhouse. Its Snapdragon 800 processor is twice as fast as the one in the Galaxy S4 in some of our benchmark tests. It also comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be upgraded via a microSD. One of the most impressive aspects of the Z1 is its camera. With 20.7 megapixels and a compact camera size sensor it should deliver much better low light performance than any other smartphone. A number of integrated camera apps like Social Live, Info Eye and AR Effect present a new way of interacting with whatever you’re shooting. The Xperia Z1 also ups the water resistant stakes and is now certified IP 58 meaning it can be left submerged in water. In addition Sony is giving away 100 pounds worth of freebies with every purchase, including 6 movies and 10 games. We’ll be reviewing the Xperia Z1 fully soon so keep your eyes on
