Interesting, but at that price point you could buy a good entry level DSLR or mirrorless camera that would both have much better specs. I wouldn't waste my money.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to get a DSLR with a f1.8 lens on it for anything less than $1000...

I'm mostly concerned about the lack of functions such as HDR or panorama. If this lens could be chosen as the camera for any third party apps that would be a gamebreaker but so far this appears to be hush hush or "never gonnna happen". Not having sony's great panorama on this mode stops me from being an early adopter and I'm going to have to wait and see how it plays out.

Fair point, though it only has 3x optical zoom, I don't know what that equates to in mm. So in that respect you can get an f1.8 fixed focal length DX lens for less than £200 or at the other end an f2.8 70-200mm zoom for £1,500 and this lens is neither so it's a tough call.

This would interest me only if:
- it allowed me to use my phone's 3G/data connection to share my photos via facebook etc, and
- I didn't need to use a wifi connection to use it (needing Wifi cuts out most occasions when I want to use a camera, as I'm usually outside my home)

As it is, I don't see the point - may as well just have a separate camera as well as my phone - especially with the many slim DSLR phones that have been released in the past year or so.

The exact focal length of the lens is dependent on the aspect ratio of the image you're shooting. For a 4:3 image, the focal length is equivalent to 30mm-108mm (other aspect ratios are in that ballpark).

Hi Colin,

You won't need a wifi router as such. Instead you use built-in wifi of both devices to directly connect between them. I have an RX-100ii and that's how it works to connect.
And this lens is mainly aimed at those of us who wish to immediately share pictures online. So both your concerns are addressed.

Just tested it with iPad, no problems at all, really cool.

The image that taken with this lens looks 5megapixel instead of 20megapixel as it stated. My cannon 7d 18.2megapixel took a better shot with close and far range.
