Combining a camcorder with a projector sounds like a recipe for neither feature to operate well. But with the HDR-PJ10E Sony has put together a decent midrange HD camcorder with a usable LED projector. The projector only offers a 640 x 360 resolution, but it can project an image up to 60in diagonally at 3m. In a reasonably dark room, you can easily watch your footage with family or friends, and the audio is quite loud too. The camcorder is capable of good image quality, although there isn't much option for manual control. With a price about the same as buying both devices separately, the PJ10E is a tempting hybrid.

While I have always enjoyed and, indeed, trusted these reviews, I feel it worth asking the slightly grudging reviewer of the Sony HDR PJ10E camcorder if he had actually handled the equipment before he wrote his review. He says, somewhat dismissively, that 'not surprisingly' there is no provision for external microphone and headphones. This is important as numbers of potential purchasers will feel no need to read on. The model I held today was clearly equipped with sockets for both. 'Trusted' reviews?
