Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX1 - Test Shots - Exposure Evaluation

By Cliff Smith

Our Score:

Here are some general test shots to help evaluate the camera's overall image quality, including dynamic range, colour rendition and the zoom range of the lens. Some pictures may be clicked to download the full size original image.

The wide angle and of the zoom is equivalent to 24mm, wider than average.

The 5x telephoto is equivalent to 120mm.

Even with DRO turned off the dynamic range isn't too bad.

Turning on DRO produces even more shadow detail.

Colour reproduction is excellent.

The Sweep Panorama mode is great for...well, panoramas.

It's got an unusually fast lens for a compact, very tempting. I'm looking to get a new compact camera this summer, it's getting harder & harder to choose!! HX-5, WX-1, TZ10, CX3 - Arggh!!!

This camera is indeed very well featured, but as for the Image Quality rating should have been 6 or 7 because the pictures taken with this camera is inconsistent.

ChrisC: You should check out Panasonic ZR3. It's an all-rounder in terms of features, camera size, image quality, speed, etc.

Wonder what would happen if you did a panorama pan shot while following a passing car/person/bicycle. Could be interesting!
