Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX1 - Test Shots - Detail And Lens Performance

By Cliff Smith

Our Score:

A range of general test shots are shown over the next two pages. In some cases, the full size image has been reduced for bandwidth purposes, and a crop taken from the original full resolution image has been placed below it to show the overall image quality.

Here's the usual detail test shot of the West Window of Exeter Cathedral, for you to compare with other cameras. See below for a full res crop, or click for the full sized image. The downloadable file is approximately 3.7MB.

The level of detail is excellent for a 10MP sensor,.

Although very sharp, the lens does suffer from barrel distortion at wide angle.

Centre sharpness is excellent.

There is a little blurring in the far corners of the frame, but no chromatic aberration.

It's got an unusually fast lens for a compact, very tempting. I'm looking to get a new compact camera this summer, it's getting harder & harder to choose!! HX-5, WX-1, TZ10, CX3 - Arggh!!!

This camera is indeed very well featured, but as for the Image Quality rating should have been 6 or 7 because the pictures taken with this camera is inconsistent.

ChrisC: You should check out Panasonic ZR3. It's an all-rounder in terms of features, camera size, image quality, speed, etc.

Wonder what would happen if you did a panorama pan shot while following a passing car/person/bicycle. Could be interesting!
