It's pretty much been the story of Windows 7 throughout its development phrase so it seems apt that the RTM build has now hit MSDN and TechNet subscribers bang on time.

Up until this point Windows 7 RTM had been handed out to a limited number of partners and OEMS but this brings the release audience into the 100s of thousands, if not the tens of millions that will greet it on 22 October.

"As we previously announced, today [6 August] MSDN & TechNet Subscribers will be able to download Windows 7 RTM in English," said the ubiquitous Windows Blog communications manager Brandon LeBlanc. "On October 1st, the remaining languages will be released. The bits are available now!"

Beginning today "Volume License (VL) customers with an existing Software Assurance (SA) license will be able to download Windows 7 RTM in English via the Volume License Service Center (VLSC)," he continued. "In a few weeks, the remaining languages will become available to them. If you are a VL customer without a SA license, you will be able to purchase Windows 7 through Volume Licensing on September 1st."

Yes, this all means Windows 7 RTM is already doing a rip roaring trade on bittorent and Usenet but perhaps more importantly is that Europe will now be getting the full fat edition with Windows 7 E wisely hitting the cutting room floor.

10 weeks and counting...
