And yet on the link at the bottom of the news story Microsoft are still taking orders for Windows 7 E ... so it's not like Microsoft are totally sure what's going on with it at the moment.

Do you have any idea how this will affect Pre-orders?
I only pre-ordered (and in fact bought) Windows 7 E with the understanding that it would end up being what is effectively a full version of Windows 7. Not an upgrade, but for the price of one.
If they're now scrapping W7 E, does that mean that all pre-orders will be turned into upgrades? or will they all just get cancelled?
Fingers crossed eh?

im amazed microsoft even bothers with us europeans ata all deeing as we hit them with stupid fines every couple of months

@Stefan - I'm sure all orders will simply be updated to full versions - if this is true. Upgrades would then go on sale separately. Frustratingly, we're still waiting for a Microsoft response to all this...

@All
"As for those consumers in Europe who preordered the Windows 7 E Editions during the recent special promotion, Microsoft says they will get the Full versions of the product at Upgrade promotional prices, as promised. But it will be the normal version of Windows 7, not the previously planned Windows 7 E Editions."

@Wilson - Excellent news. A case of Microsoft doing the right thing, instead of penalising its European customers.

@Wilson - excellent spot. I was in the process of writing this up when we spotted your comment in the admin engine! A full write-up is now live:

Where we don't yet have an option is the Windows 7 Family Pack ($149) which will allow users to install the same copy of Windows 7 Home Premium on three different PCs. Microsoft says issues with the Windows 7 E SKU mean it will not be ready until 2010.
This is irrelevant - The E versions have been scrubbed!
