Excited about Firefox Mobile? Excited about Google Android? Excited about using them both together? Well, don't be...

In some rather distressing news, Mozilla has confirmed that it will primarily concentrate its efforts on producing a Linux native edition of Firefox Mobile for the Nokia Internet Tablet (!) and then look to produce versions for touchscreen and non-touchscreen editions of Windows Mobile.

As for Android, Mozilla's director of mobile engineering Christian Sejersen said it had no plans for port Firefox Mobile to it "now or in the near future". There was better news for Symbian however with Sejersen admitting the platform would be its next port of call after the Windows Mobile versions are up and running. The iPhone? Don't be silly - it violates Apple's primary SDK rule: no third party duplication of core iPhone functionality.

Looking at the positives however the phrase "now or in the near future" only rules out the next, say, three to six months and Android won't be anywhere near maturity at that point. In fact we won't even know if the OS is going to be a viable long term solution until far more handsets than just the G1 hit the market so clearly Mozilla is taking a 'wait and see' approach before committing to heavy coding hours.

Besides chin up, there'll be a true Google Chrome port before long anyhow...

Will Firefox mobile work with the new Blackberry's or is it incompatible with their OS?

Wasn't mentioned I'm afraid... I'd guess it's some way off. Like Android off...
