It is not often that an extra .1 hints at great excitement in a new browser update, but Opera has made its incremental bump a little more interesting than usual...

Opera 9.6 launches today after some time in beta and tickles our optimistic tendencies with a number of handy improvements.

Most basically - but helpfully? - Opera 9.6 offers a speed boost over v9.5 (already a lightening performer) while its Opera M2 email native email client has been optimised to include a "low bandwidth mode" for retrieving emails faster over a slow or faltering connection. A new 'Prioritized email' system also allows users to manage email conversations by setting up flags for certain email chains and ignoring threads for any that are particularly snooze worthy.

Opera Link has been expanded too with search engines and browser history now able to be synchronised over multiple devices just like bookmarks, Opera Speed Dial and the personal bar - new feature I've been begging for in Firefox for many a moon.

Next 'Previewed feeds' is an excellent addition as well which provides a multi-column preview of RSS feeds before you even click on them - much like the brilliant Boox add-on for Firefox. An invaluable time saver. Lastly if you speak Indonesian, Ukrainian, Estonian, Hindi, Telugu or Tamil languages Opera now has native versions. Any Telugu speakers out there reading TR?

Free Linux, Mac and Windows versions of Opera 9.6 are available for download now. Telugu speakers, what are you waiting for...?
