Protests Expected As Facebook Redesign Imposed

Regular Facebook users, your site is changing and there's not a thing you can do about it...
Love it or hate it (and judging by the 1m+ members of the Petition against 'New Facebook' many are in the latter category) the controversial redesign is about to be imposed on all members.
"The new design is different, and we understand that some people will be uncomfortable with the changes," said Facebook Product Manager Mark Slee. "But over time, we think people will appreciate the advantages of the new design and the new features it offers."
"Any change can be a big deal to our users because this is how they connect with their family and friends," added founder Mark Zuckerberg. "So when you move things around, it can be perceived as being not a positive thing even when it's a positive change."

Roughly 30 million of Facebook's 40 million members have already swapped over.
Interestingly however the move to a tabbed approach separating applications, profile, wall and more has been somewhat messy and the end result - while not the convoluted single page mess of the original - throws in a rash of unwanted advertising and certainly doesn't live up to early expectations.
Ironically enough the move should not have been difficult. In my personal opinion Facebook designed its most promising facelift when launching a dedicated site for the iPhone, it is slick, intuitive and was created in only a few weeks. Accessible from any PC, check it out from the link below, grab a box of tissues, try not to cry too much and see the inspiration for what might have been...

I also agree with Ed, the new design is a lot cleaner, with most of the rubbish profile-cluttering apps ostracised to their own tab.

@all - I'm generally in favour of it, but it's still messy for a tabbed design. Hopefully this is just the start of a number of tweaks further down the line.

I can't get the new site to work (in Opera). When I search within my friends I just get a blank page.
Maybe everyone has 'un-friended' me.
