iTunes 7.7 Brings App Store, Remote Control

In all the excitement over tomorrow's impending launch of the 3G iPhone we all seem to have forgotten that the software required (in this day and age!?) to use it. Apple hasn't, though, because iTunes 7.7 is now here, bringing with it some new features. We'd expect no less!

Foremost is the addition of support for apps from, oddly enough, the App Store with one such free Apple-supplied app having support built directly in to iTunes. A small checkbox in the preferences menu is the only allusion that it's there, but doubtless many iPhone and iPod Touch users will find literally minutes of enjoyment being able to remote control iTunes with their devices.
Apparently, we've not tested it, iTunes 7.7 also sees the addition of Nike+iPod support to the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Using most of this new functionality will require a firmware 2.0-sporting iPhone or Touch, not that that should come as a surprise. We'd be very, very surprised if Apple didn't make that update available for current owners come midnight, when the 3G iPhone goes on sale.
Oh yes, don't forget iPod Touch owners, you'll be paying for the privilege of acquiring the newer software….
