Google has often been criticised for its lax privacy policy but that was concerned with end users. Now the firm is beginning to probe companies more closely than they would like too...

Latest in the innumerable changes that Google makes to its search engine each week is a new form of 'deep search' which breaks down the top result (where appropriate) to show main sections as well as provide a Google search of it.

Of course for users (and arguably that must be Google's primary concern) it should further simply their ability to find what they want, but the controversy circles around businesses, many of whom having spent fortunes on their sites and now see much of their hard work (and page impressions) bypassed in favour of more page impressions for Google. Of all these, Microsoft (below) must find it particularly galling.

Still, the upgrade builds upon the improvements already in place following the implementation of Universal Search and with Google's market share growing ever larger it's hard to see anyone, including a Microsoft & Yahoo merger, catching up...

Update: We're there too now!
