When it rains it pours...

Already facing a trial over its allegedly plagiarist beginnings uber-networking site and student/graduates' choice Facebook has run into even more bother this week after the source code of its main page was accidentally leaked onto the web.

In an official response, Facebook admitted: "A small fraction of the code that displays Facebook web pages was exposed to a small number of users due to a single misconfigured web server that was fixed immediately. It was not a security breach and did not compromise user data in any way. Because the code that was released only powers the Facebook user interface, it offers no useful insight into the inner workings of Facebook."

Of course this last line has to be taken with a rather large pinch of salt. For while hackers don't have their hands on the inner core of the site they do now have official source code which will let them analyse its construction and potentially offer greater insight into potential hacks. Typically as well, a dedicated blog has already been set up called Facebook Secrets (no we won't link it for obvious reasons) of which its sole purpose appears to be to reprint the leaked home page code. At time of publication it is still live too...
