Two years is a long time between product cycles. For many companies that kind of delay would see it loose masses of market share and is simply unthinkable. With Adobe it is a little different, people are prepared to wait and that is a pretty strong endorsement.

But for those of you impatiently tapping toes and drumming fingertips the wait won't be much longer. May is the proposed month for a full international rollout of the imaginatively titled “Creative Suite 2”.

Returning to our computers either separately or collectively (in Premium or Standard Editions) will be CS2 versions of all the usual suspects such as Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator along with its hyped GoLive authoring tool for web and mobile content, InCopy (a professional writing and editing programme designed to work with InDesign), and Version Cue (a file version manager and collaboration tool).

The newest kid on the block is Adobe Bridge, a visual browser that lets designers browse, organise and process design assets within the CS2 software components. It works in conjunction with Adobe Stock Photos (an image resource with more than 230,000 royalty free stock shots).

Clearly, the major theme with CS2 is integration, emphasising application interoperability rather than the utilisation of each as an entirely separate resource.

Estimated street price for the Premium Edition is £899, with the Standard Edition setting customers back £669 (both also include copies of Acrobat 7.0 Professional). Upgrade pricing for owners of CS is available on request.

Individually, GoLive CS2 costs £335, Illustrator CS2 is £435 InCopy CS2 £295, InDesign CS2 £609 and Photoshop CS2 £439. Upgrades to GoLive CS, Illustrator CS2 and InDesign CS are available from £139, with Photoshop CS2 updates from £119 and InCopy CS2 from £89. All prices include VAT.
