Facebook Messenger app comes to Apple Watch

The Facebook Messenger app now has native support for the Apple Watch.

Back at Apple’s September 9 ‘Hey Siri’ event, the company launched much more than just a couple of new iPhones. The first wave of announcements at the event concerned the Apple Watch.

The biggest announcement was that native apps were ready to roll out to Apple’s smartwatch. One of the apps cited as an example of this was Facebook Messenger, which would bring snappier instant messaging to the Apple Watch.

Now the Facebook Messenger App Store app has been updated with native Apple Watch support.

This means that it’s now possible to send and receive voice clips, Likes, stickers and more from your wrist.

There have also been other, non-Apple Watch improvements made in version 38.0 of the Facebook Messenger app. New iOS 9 integration means that you can find Messenger contacts and conversations using your iPhone’s unified search function.

Meanwhile iPad owners will now be able to use Messenger as part of iOS 9’s new split-screen multitasking function. This means that you could have Messenger going in one pane while you’re surfing the web on Safari in the other.

Facebook Messenger version 38.0 is available to download now from the iOS App Store.
