Hay its great to see you guys doing a lens review, its been a long time.

Was thinking of getting this but settled on the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4, its cheaper and amazingly sharp (above f4!), its a good alternative if you cant afford the 17-50.
I couple it with an 18-200, and don't bother taking any other lenses with me.

I bought this lens and using it with the Nikon 5100 and am very pleased with it. The 5100 Nikon body and the Sigma lens combination is an excellent combination. I tried the Simgma 17-70 and was not very happy with the sharpness. I was at the camera shop for 5 hours testing most of the lens mentioned in the article. The Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM is a very good to excellent lens especially for the price. It is much sharper than the 17-70 Sigma. The Nikon is almost 2 to 3x more expensive and the difference is hardly noticeable.
