While the lack of microUSB is a concern and the build isn't quite as solid as an iPad, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7in is nevertheless a seriously impressive tablet. If you're looking for a smaller alternative to the 9in and 10in tablets, this looks to be the pick of the bunch.

Whilst there is much to like about this offering from Sammy (I am a fan of the 7 inch ff BTW) no HDMI and no USB are a total deal-breaker. It is one thing to have a proprietary connection to a docking station but there is zero excuse for the lack of standard connections otherwise. Very disappointed to see this, I was looking forward to the inheritor to the original Galaxy tab. What is with the OEMs and tablets? HTC with the overpriced Flyer with the phone os on it (FGS!), same kind of thing from Moto with the Xoom and now Sammy with these serious drawbacks and most of the rest (with the honourable exception of Asus) supplying bottom-feeding crap-tek. Frankly I am not surprised that the fruit company is having such an easy ride of it at the moment.

A tablet featuring non-standard ports is understandable (and expected) from a company such as Apple which has a legion of gullible marks more than willing to buy into such a scam. But from a company struggling in a distance second it's much harder to understand. It's a shame too that the back is encased in brush metal which is slippery to the touch even with dry hands. Still it's a welcome relief to see the 7" form factor still being considered by manufacturers although cost may as much be an issue here given the technology involved.
