Vodafone Smart Platinum 7 – Battery

The Vodafone Smart Platinum 7 is powered by a non-removable Lithium-ion 3,000mAh battery. In every day use, the handset lasts a day and a half before needing a top up, which is pretty standard.

Regular use entailed taking and making a few calls, listening to music sporadically throughout the day, constantly checking my email and social media feeds, and playing some games on the commute home from work.

The phone also deals fairly well with more intensive tasks such as video streaming and 3D gaming. Streaming an hour of Netflix over lunch with the screen at 75% brightness, the Smart Platinum 7 lost between 12-17% of its charge – pretty standard for a 5.5-inch phone. Gaming put a bigger drain on the battery: playing Banner Saga, the phone lost between 18-24% of its charge, which is again pretty standard.

Should I buy the Vodafone Smart Platinum 7?

If you’re a Vodafone customer looking for a great value-for-money, mid-range smartphone then yes, absolutely. The Smart Platinum 7 has a premium-looking design, vibrant screen and offers solid performance and battery life.

The phone’s only fault is that it doesn’t quite match its arch-rival, the OnePlus 3 in two key areas. The OnePlus 3 offers improved performance and has a superior camera. The OnePlus 3 is also carrier agnostic, which makes it a better choice for those on existing non-Vodafone contracts.

Verdict

A great smartphone, ideal for any Vodafone customer looking for a bargain.
