Tangent DAB 2GO Review - Sound Quality and Verdict Review

Tangent DAB 2GO – Sound Quality

The Tangent DAB 2GO is a single-speaker mono radio, just like most petite worktop radios. It uses a 3-inch full-range driver unit, with a bass port on the rear to help out with airflow.

Tonally, the Tangent radio is warm and bassy, providing a fairly forgiving signature for the generally low-quality DAB signal. The DAB 2GO is much bassier than most of the competition, presumably helped by the bass port as well as bass-boosting sound tuning.

Top volume and the boldness of the Tangent DAB 2GO’s sound are impressive for a small device like this, making it a good choice if the radio’s going to have to compete with, for example, the clatter of a kitchen.

However, in a quieter environment, the limited treble insight and the occasional boomy low-end become quite apparent. The sound also distorts at top volume at times too, depending on how bassy the music you’re listening to is. It’s no great surprise, though, when the Tangent DAB 2GO offers a louder, more thunderous sound than many a DAB box.

Tangent DAB 2GO – Value

Should you buy a Tangent DAB 2GO? Well, as much as connected tech is trying desperately to nudge DAB into the old folks’ home of tech, there’s still room in most homes for a simple radio. And since its price dropped from £180 to “just” £100, it has become a serious competitor for the big dogs of the market, Roberts and Pure. It goes a little louder than either a Pure Evoke or Roberts Revival, although isn’t quite as stylish as either the Pure Evoke Mio or the classics Roberts.

Verdict

The Tangent DAB 2GO enters the DAB radio market at a strange time, as most manufacturers are moving away from making pure and simple radios. However, it’s a solid product, with an attractive design, higher top volume than most radios this size and portable potential thanks to its battery compartment.
