Samsung Xpress M2875FD – Print Speeds

Samsung rates the Xpress M2875FD at 28ppm, but we saw a maximum speed of slightly less than 21ppm, only three quarters of the rated speed. That was for the 20-page, long document and for the more typical five page text, the speed dropped to 12.5ppm, or 13.0ppm in eco-mode. A 15 x 10 cm photo took 15s at highest print quality.

Printing duplex, the same 20-side document took 1:47, giving a speed of 11.2 sides per minute. The five-page text and graphics print gave 12.5ppm, the same as the text-only test. Interestingly, both the five page prints took the same time as the five-page copy from the ADF. A single page copy from the flatbed took 9s.

Samsung Xpress M2875FD – Print Quality and Costs

The quality of the Samsung Xpress M2875FD’s prints was pretty good with clean, sharp text and no signs of spatter or other artefacts. Business graphic prints were also generally clear, though some restriction in the number of greyscales available means that different colours in originals can translate to identical greys.

Text copies were also clean, though greyscale copies looked blotchy and came through darker than originals. Our photo test, at the best print quality available, showed little in the way of banding and gave good definition, even capturing some shadow detail, often lost in mono laser prints.

Using the highest yield toner cartridge, the page cost comes out at 4.0p, including 0.7p for paper. This is quite high, even in comparison with machines like the link not available yet Dell B1265DFW, based on a similar engine.

Should I buy a Samsung Xpress M2875FD?

It’s interesting to compare this all-in-one with the Dell machine, as we got similar results from both, though the Dell was marginally quicker and cheaper to run. It also includes wireless connection at the same price point and so represents a strong competitor.

There are other mono laser all-in-ones, of course, including machines like Brother’s https://www.trustedreviews.com/brother-mfc-7460dn_Printer_review MFC-7460DN, which scored 9/10 and was recommended when we reviewed it.

Verdict

The Samsung Xpress M2875FD is a very serviceable mono laser all-in-one. It doesn’t swamp the desktop and provides generally good quality prints at a reasonable speed. It’s not the cheapest device to run, though it’s easy to use eco-print can cut costs as well as benefiting the environment.
