Dyson V6 Fluffy – Cleaning on Stairs
The key ingredients for any vacuum cleaner when it comes to stairs are lightweight, manoeuvrability, suction power and, should you have carpeted stairs, a small Turbobrush head. That is tick, tick, tick, tick and tick for the V6 Fluffy.
The smaller Turbobrush was the tool of choice for our carpeted stairs and fitted directly to the handheld unit. Some might find the operation easier with the tube attached, but both methods give you superb flexibility for getting around your stairs with zero danger of falling over the cord while you are at it.
Getting under things isn’t a problem
There isn’t anywhere on the main cleaner to store the smaller detail tools for spot cleaning, but we found the cleaner so light we could carry the dusting brush in the other hand while you vacuum.
The combination of great suction power, low weight, cordless flexibility and the range of heads make reaching any stair a breeze and it delivers superb cleaning power irrespective of floor covering.
Against any corded or cordless, bagged or bagless cleaner, the V6 Fluffy is the most versatile cleaner we have yet to test on stairs.

Dyson V6 Fluffy – Pet Hair Cleaning
With an armoury of Turbobrush heads supplied, it was little surprise that the V6 Fluffy is a great performer when it comes to collecting pet hairs. It cleared our carpet with a 30cm patch of mixed dog’s hairs in well under 10 seconds, which is comparable with some of the best mains powered vacuums we have tried. The easy removable brush bars means that cleaning hairs that have become wrapped around the brushes is straightforward, too.
On hard floors, the Fluffy head behaves quite differently on pet hair than traditional suction only heads. It doesn’t suck in hairs from around the perimeter of the head, but is tenacious at picking them up when you roll the head directly over them.
The Fluffy brush bar itself is a larger diameter than conventional brush bars and this proved very resistant to the hairs getting wrapped around the roller – so more went into the cleaner.
Should I buy the Dyson V6 Fluffy?
OK, it’s rather expensive, has a single battery and is not quite up to the best corded cleaner standards on edge cleaning. Yet in every other respect Dyson’s V6 Fluffy redefines the whole category of cordless cleaners with comprehensively class-leading performance, ergonomics, practicality and design. Could the V6 Fluffy be your home’s only cleaner? You bet.
It’s really the price that’s the biggest stumbling block. If you like the idea but not the price you could consider the standard Dyson V6, which lacks the Fluffy head, for £100 less, but there’s no escaping that Dyson’s cordless range is pricey.
The next best alternative is the Vax Air Cordless Lift, which is a good chunk cheaper. It’s arguably better for larger homes thanks to its longer running time, but it isn’t as portable or as powerful. For sheer practicality, innovation and performance, the Dyson V6 Fluffy sets the gold standard for cordless vacuum cleaners.
Verdict
Forget corded vacuum cleaners, the cordless Dyson V6 Fluffy is the way to go.
