Canon Unveils Selphy ES40 Talking Photo Printer

So you thought there wasn't any room left for innovation in the realm of printers did you? Well that makes two of us. Two of us who are equally wrong it turns out because Canon's latest, the Selphy ES40, will talk you through the process of touching-up and printing photos. Clever, no?

As per a number of other Canon printers, image editing facilities are provided on the ES40, so that photos can be tweaked and printed direct from a camera or memory card, without the need for a computer. The ES40 features a 3.5in, 230k dot LCD for previewing images, and changes to them. Unlike other printers, however, Voice Guidance, as it is called, will provide instructions such as "select a colour" or "select the area for printing" as well as offering audio prompts to help fix problems, like low paper or ink levels.

The ES40 has a max resolution of 300 x 600dpi, will churn out a postcard sized print in 55 seconds, ‘L Size' prints in 47 seconds and credit card sized prints in 33 seconds. A Bluetooth adaptor is available, enabling wireless printing from a compatible device, such as a phone or netbook.

The Selphy ES40 will cost £180 when is launches in September.
