George Orwell got the date wrong instead of 1984 it should have been 2024. Soon very soon printers will be taking the pictures and sending it off to SkyNet which will send it to Colossus and make us buy OEM inks, toners and their paper. Soon we will have printers telling us were and when we can go, what to do and when to do it. What is this world coming too?
We are almost there anyway so just set back and enjoy the ride there is not much you can do.

@StephenW - I have an old multi-function Lexmark printer which talks back too. Or it did for about the first 3 seconds it tried, after which the feature was disabled!

I remember training engineers on Lexmark laser printers back in the mid 1990's - back then the speech came via a PC running their 'MarkVision' software - do I take it from the above comments that Lexmark now include the speech feedback directly from the printer itself?

I used to have a Lexmark printer years ago with a similar feature. I still remember with fondness the crisp, authoritative tone as it used to remind me to "Please load paper in the auto-sheet feeder". You need never feel lonely when carry out a heavy print-job.
