There's only so much you can do to a printer to have it stand out from the crowd, so well done Casio for discovering one that, so far as I can tell, hasn't been done by anyone else. Differentiating the PCP-250 (top image) and PCP-1200 (bottom image) from the crowd, Casio has added a keyboard to each. Unusual, yes but there is actually a fairly good justification.

By adding keyboards the printers can be used for task that would either be extremely unwieldy, or downright impossible, using just a touch-screen or button controlled interface. Tasks such as calendar creating, printing typed postcards and adding comments (for example, "Here is a picture of my cat being cute" or "Look, here's me on a holiday you'll never be able to afford ha ha ha") to photographs.


Both printers sport Memory Stick (standard, PRO, Duo and PRO Duo), SH, SDHC, miniSD, miniSDHC, microSD, microSDHC, xD and Compact Flash card formats - or in other words, just about every type of flash memory card going. Likewise, both offer 2,400 x 1,200 dpi printing but differ in that the PCP-1200 has a 7in, 480 x 234 resolution display while the PCP-250 has a smaller 3.5in screen.

The downside? There's no mention of a UK release, although both printers will be available in Japan from the 12th of September. Interesting concept, though.
