Samsung Claims "World's Smallest" Colour Laser Printers

Size may not be everything, but that hasn't stopped Samsung from touting its latest colour laser printers, the CLP-315K and CLX-3175FNK, as "the world's smallest" of their kind. Not that there's anything wrong with that; the CLP-300, the CLP-315K's predecessor, also claimed such a title and still made a decent show for itself - albeit over a year and a half ago, in a much different market.

The CLP-315K is 20 per cent smaller than its precursor, but is meant to have a significantly better photo print quality. At the maximum resolution of 2,400 x 600 DPI the CLP-315K will churn out 14ppm black and 4ppm colour which is pretty acceptable.

The CLX-3175FNK boasts an ever greater size reduction of 40 per cent over the previous generation model, the CLX-3160. An all-in-one model is has the useful feature of being able to print from and scan to a USB, bypassing the need for a PC. Page-per-minute ratings aren't specified for the CLX-3175FNK, but there is unlikely to be any drop from the 16ppm black and 4ppm colour speeds of the previous generation printer.

Pricing and UK release dates aren't known as yet, but it seems unlikely that Samsung would show off these printers ages before they're set to be launched. If you're looking for a colour laser printer and desk space is at a premium, waiting may well be worthwhile.
