Canon Announces PIXMA iP100 Portable Printer

Canon has a decent pedigree when it comes to photography, and what do you do with photos but print them? Polaroid cameras are old hat these days so if you need quick copies of photographs while on the move portable printers are definitely the way forward. To whit, Canon has just announced its successor to the PIXMA iP90v portable printer, namely the iP100. So what does it offer?

For a start you'll get a compact 32.2cm x 18.5cm x 6.7cm (WxDxH) frame weighing around 2Kg (although that figure is probably sans-battery) which while hardly light, isn't so heavy as to make the PIXMA iP100 impractical to carry around. On the printing front Canon boasts a maximum 9,600 x 2,400 dpi, a 50 second (10 x 15cm) photo print time, 15.6ppm monochrome and 11.2ppm colour print speeds.

As well as a battery pack, the PIXMA iP100 adds to its portable credentials with an optional Bluetooth adaptor, enabling compatible cameras and cameraphones to print wirelessly. There's even infra-red for those stuck in the dark ages and a PictBridge port for plugging cameras directly into the printer. Also available is a car cigarette lighter adaptor for on-the-road charging. (Printing while driving isn't advised).

According to Canon, 290 pages can be printed from a single charge of the battery.

If you have £199 or £249 to hand for the battery-free and battery-fitted versions respectively, Canon will be pleased to take your money come mid-May when the PIXMA iP100 is scheduled to launch.
