If you need a fairly heavy duty monochrome laser printer Epson may well have the solution you're looking for. The AcuLaser M4000 may not be glamorous (can a printer ever be?) but what it lacks in style it looks set to make up for in function.

The important stats include 43ppm printing at 1200dpi resolution, an eight second time to first page and an optional duplexing module. Supposedly this is Epson's fastest ever laser printer - although it's worth considering that other manufacturers do have still faster rival offerings.

Capacity wise the AL-M4000 can hold 700 sheets as standard, but can be configured with additional trays to augment that to 1,800 pages. The duty cycle is rated to 20,000 pages per month, which should be more than sufficient for most businesses likely to consider using the printer.

Network compatibility is of course featured, and the printer is compatible with Epson's EpsonNet Authentication Print System, allowing swipe card or pin code restricted printing. Another notable feature is the expandable RAM, which can be increased from 64MB to 576MB, allowing more complicated and larger quantities of documents to be printed.

Interested? Then Epson will have you part with upwards of £590 depending on the configuration you're after.

Note: No images available yet, but it will probably look a fair bit like the M2000 pictured above.
