Winner: HP Deskjet 1050

This all-in-one colour inkjet is incredible value at £30. It's not the fastest, at 52 seconds in the five page A4 test, but running costs remained reasonable at 4.59p per sheet in black and white (including 0.7p paper cost) and 10.4p per sheet colour. It lacks Wi-Fi and many other extras but thanks to its flatbed scanner (up to 1200dpi) it does all the basic multi-function duties and is an all-round easy-to-use, affordable and good quality printer.
