Philips HD4644

At the moment, modern style kettles are all the rage. These are kettles that don’t use the traditional fill-the-jug-and-pour-what-you-want method — instead you fill the kettle up, pop your mug underneath and press a button. Then the modern kettle will dispense the perfect amount of hot water to make a hot drink. These are handy, but there are also a number of downsides, namely, you can’t fill a saucepan easily with them.

The Philips HD4644 on the other hand manages to take all the useful and handy features of the modern kettle without any of the drawbacks. It has a One Cup Indicator in the water level display window on the side which lets you know exactly how much water you’ve put in and exactly how many hot drinks you can make with that water. Therefore, just like on a modern kettle, you don’t have to worry about overfilling it and wasting electricity and therefore money boiling water you’re not going to use.

There’s lots of other handy things about the Philips HD4644, too. It has a 1.7 litre capacity, which is about average for modern kettles and should let you make a good amount of hot drinks without having to refill it. The 360 degree base makes it easy to dock the jug of the Philips HD4644 with the power supply, and it’s cordless so it’s easy to take where you need to.

With 3000 watts of power the Philips HD4644 boils water quickly, so you’ve not got to hang around waiting for the kettle to boil. It’s efficient to use, well designed and generally just a really good kettle. The only negative side is that in some cases the water has been reported to taste plasticy, and some of the design elements feel a little bit cheap. These are only niggles though, and the Philips HD4644 is very good value for money.
