But the most disappointing aspect is that you have to run a cable from the PSP headphone socket to the input at the rear of the speakers. Personally I would have liked to have seen the audio connection built into the stand, but I guess that would add to the cost. Also, I guess that the non-integrated stand and mini-jack input mean that you can use devices other than a PSP.

All the kit sits snugly in a zip up carry case, making transport easy. There’s a power supply for running the speakers, but you can power them using batteries as well. However, Logitech has decided to use four AAA batteries – not only are AAA batteries more expensive than AA, but they also don’t last as long. I would have preferred to see AAs used, even if the device had to be slightly bigger.

With a street price of £29.99 though, the PlayGear Amp is good value for money. So, if you need a set of speakers for your PSP, Logitech’s black and silver bundle is worth a look.

Verdict

The PlayGear Amp isn’t without its problems, but the sound quality is good and the price is very attractive. Also, with the standard mini-jack input, you can use the PlayGear Amp with pretty much any audio source.
